Product Overview
The Long and Luxe line from the As I Am brand consist of products formulated to promote hair growth. The curl enhancing smoothie is apart of this line, and features a delightful scent of pomegranate to complement its results. The ingredients in this product consist of frizz-fighting additives, along with moisturizing and conditioning extracts. This combination of ingredients is still lightweight enough to not cause heavy build-up with your styles. Although sounding reminiscent to Shea Moisture’s Curl Enhancing Smoothie, this one from As I Am is best used for twist-outs or braid-outs.
Initial & Lasting Impressions
As I Am is one of my favorite natural hair brands, so I was really excited to try this curl enhancing smoothie. It comes in a decent sized jar with a generous amount of product that I could definitely get a long use out of. Upon first opening the product, you are welcomed with a lush pomegranate passion-fruit scent that left my hair smelling great. The As I Am Curl Enhancing Smoothie has a thick, creamy consistency, and did not have as much slip. Although it said it was best used for twist-outs, I tried it with a wash and go first. Besides being a bit difficult to apply because it was not as slippery, I was impressed with the results. My curls were defined with moisture and zero crunch, but the hold was not as strong, understandably.
The next style I tried with this product was a twist-out, which it states on the jar as its favorable intended use. I applied the As I Am Curl Enhancing Smoothie to my twists with no other products. After letting my hair fully dry, there was still an ample amount of moisture. This is usually hard to come across when using a styling product by itself. Unfortunately though, like with my wash and go, I did not experience that strong of hold with this product. My twists did come out defined, moisturized, and shiny, but I personally prefer As I Am’s Twist Defining Cream better for my twist-outs.

Conclusion
The As I Am Curl Enhancing Smoothie was a product I was really looking forward to trying. The long lasting jar size was a big bonus, and the natural ingredients are favorable. While I loved the scent, jar design, and moisture, the hold for styling was not as good for me. Surprisingly, I did find that this product worked better for me with a wash and go as opposed to a twist-out that it is targeted for. However, results will vary with each person.
